2008 - Daniel Acevedo -- Street Modified 93 Ford Mustang

I was born and raised in El Paso, TX with a brief time living in South Carolina when I was younger.  I graduated from Hanks HS in 1992 and decided not to pursue a college education.  I decided to become a more hands on learn as I go person and I don't regret it for one minute.  I am not married nor do I have human children (car and truck get upset when I don't call them my children).  Family has been a great thing in my life and my uncles were the ones who got me started in cars. I can remember being under the hood of my uncles 57 chevy and my other uncles 71 Camaro. Drag racing really became a big part of my life back in 1996 with my big block Chevelle and then I started racing my daily driver a 91 mustang lx 5.0. Pretty soon afterwords the mustang became faster than the Chevelle and the rest is history. It took me a year to get involved in auto x with motivation from Bud Jeffries but one ride in Phil Becker's Corvette got me to sign up the following event. The people I have met have taught me a lot and I hope I can contribute to making the local SCCA chapter a larger club and introduce more people to this great sport.

  1. How long have you been a member of SCCA?
    • I have been a member for one year, a spectator for 2 years.
  2. What was your first car?
    • 1977 Chevrolet Camaro z28
  3. What was/is your favorite car?
    • There are too many to list but from the general it would have to be the 1996 lt4 corvette and c6 zo6.
    • From Ford it would be the 1993 mustang cobra
  4. What is your favorite racing memory?
    • My first time running on slicks. It took me by surprise so much I actually ran slower! Aside from that it would be winning the 12 second class at the last dezert demonz shootout.
  5. Who is the racer you admire or respect the most?
    • Locally it would have to be Bob Wilkenson. A person so modest and helpful can make a car do things I don't think the factory ever intended. Nationally it would have to be John Force.
  6. How do you rank the following (driver, car, car preparation)?
    • Driver, car and car prep. I have seen a stock S2000 run faster than a modified Mustang Cobra (no comment)
  7. What makes you successful?
    • My competitiveness and my ability to lose gracefully. Modesty goes a long way too.
