Solo (also known as Autocross) is the SCCA's automotive competition for practically anyone; no experience is necessary. Solo events are generally held in parking lots with the fastest stock vehicles traveling at highway speeds. In Solo events there is only one car on course at a time on a track defined by cones with electronic timing and scoring. Solo is a great place to learn the limits of yourself and your vehicle in a safe, controlled environment. Solo drivers must have a valid driver's license and their vehicles must pass a safety inspection. The relatively slow speeds, the SCCA's solo safety program and the short courses make this a great way to step into SCCA.
The course changes every event, and is marked by upright cones, cones laying down (pointer cones) and flour to form the "sides" of the road. Don't worry if it all seems a bit complicated, all new drivers will go through a quick instructional session explaining how the cones and scoring works, and you will be able to walk the course as well before the vehicles are set loose. And don't worry, it may be confusing at first but it will become second nature if you stick to it.
In Solo the driver's experience is the biggest influence on performance...not the vehicle!!
