Pan Am Region SCCA
1Oct07 Meeting Minutes
Attendance: Mike Downey, Phil Becker, Don Loomis, Fred Hernandez, Gary Myers, John Basler, Luis Moreno, Richard Dziak, Luis Moreno, Jose Gerardo, and Dave Lehrschall
The meeting came to order at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 1, 2007.
Secretary’s Report – Karl Busch: Karl was not present. Rumor was that he was in New York picking up a new Lotus Elise. The group voted to ask Karl to have the September minutes e-mailed to the BOD for review and approval. Afterwards, the file should be sent to John Basler for posting on our website. (These minutes, October 1st, will be posted on the website to share the information as soon as possible, but considered unofficial until approved by the BOD at the November 1, 2007 meeting).
Treasurer’s Report – Don Loomis: Don presented the financial statement for the period 8/31/07 to 9/30/07. Don reported that we had a balance of $3,369.85.
Membership Report – Karl Busch: Not present.
Timing Report – Dave Lehrschall: Reported that the RaceAmerica display was now functioning. The first light panel (panel, chip, and connectors) were replaced with a new panel supplied from RaceAmerica for $405.00 including shipping.
Added new virus software to club laptop.
Noted that we had had no recent event timing delays except for a few incidents with small or unreadable numbers on the entries.
2nd battery (used for announcing system) is not holding a charge. Fred will bring backup to next event.
Solo Report – Luis Moreno: Discussed Cohen stadium arrangements. We are a lower priority for the Cohen management and subject to being bumped on the calendar when others offer Cohen more for rental of the property.
Need alternative sites for Solo events.
Luis wants to get the cones out on the course by 9:00 AM on the Saturday, October 6, the day before the next Solo event.
Jose noted that we had new or relatively new corner workers with too little coaching working together at the last event and that we need to insure the chief of workers verifies a newer worker is always paired with a more experienced corner worker.
Club Racing Report – Richard Dziak: Reported an upcoming event at Pueblo on October 20, 2007.
There is some effort to organize a Porsche 944 run group.
The SCCA National Run-offs on October 12th through 14th will include representation from the Pan Am Region. Dan DeWitt, Stan Czacki, and Jose Gerardo. Wish them luck!
Richard reported that he has competed in his new Phoenix F1K-07 in the F1000 class. (Richard did not brag about it, but the Phoenix Race Works LLC reported: Phoenix F1K.07 sets new track record and dominates FB field at PIR!!!! Richard Dziak piloted his beautiful red Phoenix to victory in his first time at the 1.5 mile Phoenix International Raceway infield course, establishing a new track record along the way. Congratulations to Richard!)
Richard did discuss how professional and disciplined the Phoenix group was. Show up late, you don’t run. Awards are given immediately after the run. Registration is handled on line.
Richard is planning to run at Firebird Lake on October 13th and 14th. Good luck!
American Road Racing Championship will be held in Atlanta Nov 9th and 10th. (www.apexspeed.com)
Rally Report - Clovis Green: Not Present. Group discussed the planned November 11th Rally to be run in Southeast Dona Ana county, South of Las Cruces, New Mexico.
New Business:
The group voted to move the annual awards banquet to January to avoid competition with holiday banquets.
By-laws to be reviewed and a proposal submitted to allow officer election ballets to be sent by e-mail.
(This year’s officers running un-opposed for next year because no one else volunteered. We need to recruit and elect new officers for 2009 as our bylaws will prevent the current officers from serving then).
The SCCA is planning to require “weekend memberships”. This will cost a few extra bucks, but offers the advantage of providing personal injury insurance for the one-time Solo participant. (More details to follow).
Discussed up-coming Solo Shoot-out two-day event. Fred is working with the Corvette Club to create a separate run group and open class to encourage more participants.
The meeting was adjourned.
