Minutes of the January 7, 2008 Meeting

The meeting began at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 7, 2008

In attendance: Don Loomis, John Basler, Karl Busch, Dave Lehrschall, Lester Townsend, Clovis Green, Richard Dziak, Fred Hernandez, Jesse Gerardo and Daniel Acevedo

Secretary’s Report

            Minutes of the December meeting were presented and approved

 

Treasurer’s Report:

Don Loomis reported that we had a balance of $3508.03

 

Membership Chairman’s Report:

We have 88 official members. 

 

Timing and Scoring

No new information to report

 

 Solo Chairman’s Report:

-New awards banquet date is now tentatively set for Saturday February 2, 2007.  Still undecided as to where the event will be held.  Date moved to allow 2 weeks notice for members.

-There has been one change to the schedule, which is posted on the web site, and Fred Hernandez proposed changing the March 23 event, as it is Easter Sunday.

-Unsure whether MSD will still be a sponsor this year.  Rudolph has expressed an interest in becoming a sponsor.

-Dave Lehrschall gave a recap on items mentioned at the training in Denver.  He mentioned that we should look into getting a chief of safety stewards, having the safety steward(s) sign off on the course and posting the sanction and insurance at the events possibly on the trailer.

 

           

Club Racing Chairman’s Report:

-3 members made SCCA nationals (Stan Zackey, Ben Dewitt and Jose Gerardo)

-2008 will have 12 regional races and 8 national races

-Driving school will be held May 3rd and 4th at La Junta

-Oct 6-12th will be runoffs

-Endowment $5250.11

 

Rally Report:

-First rally event is February 10th and we need to do everything possible to promote and advertise for the event.

            -Clovis made the following suggestions:

                        *One rally be a GPS rally

                        *One rally with minor traps

*there only be 2 classes (novice and expert).  Novice would be for teams with 10 or fewer events (combined between driver and navigator) and expert would have no restrictions on equipment.

*looking into the possibility of getting other clubs (Porsche and PCA) to sanction events.

            -Other event dates still tentative but are as follows:

                        March 2, May 11, July 20, Sept 21 and Nov 16

Old Business

-Dave Lehrschall expressed another interest in getting a Street Smarts event locally. 

           

New Business

-Motion by Dave Lehrschall to approve officers via e-mail ballots and for bylaw changes to be announced through e-mail and website postings to save on costs of postal mail.  Also those who show up to meetings will be the ones to vote, not just the BOD and be given at least 2 weeks notice of the meetings.

-Motion by Lester to change the “Board meetings” to “Member meetings” as to encourage more participants.  Boards of directors are required to attend all member meetings.

-Suggestions made to attract new members were to attend local car shows with SCCA member’s vehicles and possibly the SCCA trailer.  A brochure was also mentioned to be handed out at said SCCA attended events to give potential new members more information and website address.

-Lester was going to try and get a calendar of events for upcoming car shows in 2008 so we can schedule a date for members to bring their cars.  Karl Busch agreed to bring out both of his vehicles.

-Dave Lehrschall, Frank Schuster and Daniel Acevedo attended safety steward training in Denver this weekend.  Still need to “work” 2 events with current safety stewards in order to submit paperwork to the Divisional SS.
